 What is Jekyll and Hyde?

Robert Lewis Stevenson’s serialised story about a man who drinks magical potion is a comment on the duality of human nature. The kind of cautionary Good/ Evil tale that’s constantly re-imagined in fables like Star Wars, The Incredible Hulk and How To Get A Head In Advertising.

But what’s Jekyll and Hyde got to do with Rood? Well... when we thought about colour and how to incorporate it innovatively, we began to wonder… what if we could somehow encapsulate this kind of disguised duality into our Hemp clothes and products? After some head scratching we came up with theJekyll and Hyde Principle.

So what exactly is the Jekyll and Hyde Principle then? Basically it means that our exterior colours (AKA Jekyll) will be neutral, natural shades, easy to wear and easy to pair. Simple, sustainably sourced, and uncompromising on quality: Snow-White, Ash-Black, Rusty-Red, Periwinkle-Blue, Yellow-Stone.Then our hidden colours (AKA Hyde) will be hidden away in the stitching, lining and labels. These colour splashes will be bright, bold, loud and dangerous: Big-Pink, Cactus-Stick, Gasoline-Gold, and Sapphire. The Hyde in our products is designed to be a secret, only seen on the inside or in the washing basket. For those who like a bit a mystery in their character and their clothes.

Our beginnings will focus on Hemp Based Basics. T-Shirts, Socks, Knickers and Face Masks. The socks with a little Red R on the right toe. The Tee's with Big Pink stitch. The masks with a hint of lavender. As Rood grows so will our product range as well our Jekyll and Hyde.

Find your Hyde in each piece, and get involved in where to put it next by reaching around and making suggestions. And remember if you want to avoid any kind of Hyde altogether, we offer plain stitch too. (*Rood does not condone bringing Hyde in public).
